Trip Overview

The major valleys in Nepal follow north southern through the Himalayan chain. Many rise in Tibet (the land of Bhot) and are known as Bhotekosi, changing their names in Nepal. One of these rivers is the Bhotekosi/Tamakosi, west of Everest. Near the border with Tibet a narrow, tributary valley enters the Bhotekosi from the east; this is the Rolwaling Valley. The mountain range on the side, the Rolwaling Himal, forms the border with Tibet, the highest and most spectacular peak being Gaurishankar (7146m).
